Parties, Pork and Kitchens Uncorked

It’s been a week of celebrations, in three very different venues. Caren McSherry of Gourmet Warehouse threw a fabulous bash on September 30 at her store, in celebration of 10 fabulous years and the launch of her new cookbook, In a Pinch (Whitecap Books). Many of her vendors, friends and partners were there to congratulate her and share in the free-flowing food and hooch.

La Brasserie on Davie Street celebrated their two year anniversary with an Oktoberfest celebration that involved suckling pig sandwiches, many steins and lederhosen (yes, you read that right). Owners/brothers Stephen and Michael Wiese were wearing the yodelling-friendly duds right alongside their staff, but it was the food that stole the show.

And Yew Restaurant at The Four Seasons Hotel held their last “Kitchen Uncorked” party of the year, full of fabulous seafood and items from their seasonal “Fresh From” menu. This series of events allows guests behind the scenes access to the kitchen and staff—including Executive Chef Oliver Beckert, Restaurant Chef Grant MacDonald, and Pastry Chef Wayne Kozinko—and gives regular diners a chance to put a face to a plate, as it were.
