Salt Spring Island Hosts 13th Annual Apple Festival

Locals like to refer to Salt Spring Island as “Apple Heaven”, and this weekend is the time to find out why.

On Friday, Sept 30,  Seattle apple expert, Dr. Bob Norton, will be giving a talk on 50 Years of Growing Apples.  The event takes place at the Lions Hall at  7 PM.

Saturday is a prep day to get last minute details in place and get the Apple Collection at Fulford set up.  Organizers are hoping to top 300 varieties, all arranged alphabetically, and all grown organically on Salt Spring Island.  To view a time lapse of last year’s set-up, you can visit the Salt Spring Island You tube Channel here.

On Sunday, Oct 2, the island is hosting the 13th Annual Apple Festival.  Sixteen farms are participating this year, from the Burton’s , Apple Luscious Organic Orchard,  (a wild orchard)  to the Beddis Castle (a beautifully manicured waterfront estate, where deer wander freely through the property).
