3rd Annual Okanagan Spot Prawn Festival

For Immediate Release
May  9th, 2013

Wild BC Spot Prawn Harvest celebrated in the Okanagan with the 3rd Annual Spot Prawn Festival from May 25th to June 2nd.

The Okanagan is supporting British Columbia Spot Prawn fishermen by celebrating the local spot prawn harvest season. Wild BC Spot Prawns are a delicacy known around the world for their sweet, delicate flavour and firm texture. Wild BC Spot Prawns are available live during the harvest season, which starts in May and lasts for approximately six to eight weeks. 90% of BC’s commercial catch is exported to Asia. The remaining however, are available to be enjoyed fresh in local BC restaurants and celebrations during the fishing season!

From May 25th to June 2nd, dine out at participating Okanagan restaurants and enjoy spot prawn creations benefitting both OceanWise and the Okanagan Chef’s Association.  Special events include Tinhorn Creek Winery’s Miradoro Restaurant long-table spot prawn dinner and Codfather’s Seafood Market first annual straight off the boat Spot Prawn boil. Serve them up at home with recipe suggestions compiled by Jennifer Schell, author of the best-selling An Okanagan Cookbook: The Butcher, the Baker, the Wine & Cheesemaker.

On Sunday, June 2nd, the festival ends with the signature Spot Prawn Extravaganza event held at Manteo’s Resort’s new restaurant Smack DAB on Kelowna’s now largest lakeside outdoor patio. Enjoy an afternoon of award-winning local Okanagan wines paired with delicious spot prawn creations from Okanagan chefs as they battle to win the coveted title of Best Spot Prawn Dish. Tickets for this event are $45.00 inclusive and can be purchased directly at Codfather’s Seafood Market, Discover Wines, Manteo Resort, and Metro Liquor. Profits from this event are donated to the Okanagan Chef’s Association. For more information please visit the website: www.okspotprawnfestival.com
