Written By Cynthia Annett-Hynes Beer & Cider / Libations / Victoria Mar 2, 2017 Victoria Beer Week Opens This Week SHARE VIA: Facebook Twitter PinterestFor nine days starting this Friday, March the 3rd, Victoria celebrates its growing beer culture during Victoria Beer Week. Whether it’s a triple IPA, barrel-aged or a puckery sour you’ll find them and many other styles at one of the many events being held in various locations around the city.In its 4th year, the festival has expanded and aims to not only educate consumers but also showcase the high quality of the BC craft brewing industry. At this year’s event Beer Week is pairing up with the BC Craft Brewer’s Guild, which helps to build bridges between the industry and government.Kicking this off on Friday is Friday Night Casks, which featured 25 unique cask-conditioned beers, along with food from the Victoria Public Market’s vendors. If you can’t make this Friday you can always hits the brews the following Friday. No excuse huh?We know Victorians love their brunch! One of the highlights of the week is the Brewermasters’ Brunch on Saturday starting at 11 am. This year it’s being held at Swans Brewpub. Food with beer, beer with food. Saturday also sees All About The Wood – a tasting of rare barrel-aged beers and the ever-popular Brewery Crawl. Jump on a limo bus and visit four local breweries. Also on Saturday is Fishing For Beer, a grazing event with eleven brewers and a crab boil.Depending on what your interest is you’ll find an event that works for you. If you’re a home brewer, there’s a workshop you can sign-up for. Love pizza and beer? They’ve got it covered. You’ll also find tacos, artisan cheese, a beer quiz, a cooking with beer demo and more. Finally, on the last day, Saturday, March 11 the festival winds down with it’s big event held outdoors at Centennial Square. Last year 500 people showed up, this year organizers are expecting more. This tasting is called Lift Off! and features new beers from twelve BC breweries.Visit the Victoria Beer Week website and download the 2017 Guide and to purchase tickets.
