We appreciate you making a warmly welcomed (though long overdue) return to kick off Victoria Day long weekend. I anticipate many BBQ’s will be dusted off and gassed up over the next few days. And today’s DRINK will make an excellent buddy to all those barbequed burgers.Mont Tauch is the leading Cooperative in Southern France’s Languedoc – and possibly the top Co-Op in France. Set in the Languedoc’s garrigue-dominant landscape, Mont Tauch covers 1950 hectares made up of 7,000 small vineyards dotted around the villages of Tuchan, Paziols, Villeneuve and Durban. The Co-Op produces a range of both AOC and Vin de Pays wines in their state-of-the-art winery, aiming to reflect the wild Mediterranean-influenced terrain and terroir. Also reflective of this area is the Mont Tauch logo – a wild boar. The boar is a common sight in the hills around Fitou, gorging on grapes and gnawing on vine shoots. It comes as no surprise then that wild boar hunting is a popular event here, so bonus points if you pair this wine with a wild boar burger.I personally can’t speak from experience, but think the boar-ger would pair well. The Growers Réserve is a traditional Fitou blend of Carignan, Grenache and Syrah. Spicy bright cherries and wild, savoury herbs open to a juicy, medium bodied wine with hints of red currant and dried meat. Medium tannins are welcoming and friendly.
