When I come across new bottles, I always examine labels carefully. I’m sleuthing for clues – who made it, where did it come from, how’s the vintage, what’s the story (every single wine has a story). When I read the back label of this wine, it was humorously intriguing enough to earn a spot in my basket:

“Our first organic harvested wine came to life in 1990, in our vineyard, managed with technical innovation to protect the environment and mankind, such as the struggle for gender confusion and pheromone traps.”

Wow. Ok, so the technical lost-in-translation aside, would this Italian red be as memorable on the inside of the bottle? Agriverde Winery was founded in 1830 by Camillo di Carlo, and it has been passed down through the generations and expanded into a very modern organic family farming business.  This wine is made from 100% certified organic Montepulciano grapes. Easy drinking and fruit forward, with flavours of dark plum, raspberry and strawberry. Underneath the fruit there are dusty cocoa, almond and peppery notes, making up a medium bodied fall sipper. A well made – and obviously well cared about – organic red for your repertoire.
