Award winning Chef Butters to Open New Space in Kelowna

KELOWNA

Good things come in small packages.  Co-owners Chef Rod Butters and Audrey Surrao of the popular RauDZ Regional Table are gifting the Okanagan with a small package – 900 square feet of small – with a new concept they’ve christened Micro Bar • Bites. Mere steps from RauDZ on Water Street, Micro Bar • Bites will open in March 2013.

The small jewel-box of a space is designed by internationally acclaimed architect Timothy Bullinger from Arca3 Design Studio in Vancouver.  Known for his unique and meticulous work and love of lighting, Bullinger has designed homes for stars like Phil Collins, Vidal Sassoon and Georges Marciano, as well as the Vancouver restaurant Miku.

The space will remain respectful to the time period of this historic block of Water Street while giving a nod to modern interpretation. The room will feature a combination of stone, glass, and handcrafted metal features and with a custom designed wood block and wire caged lighting fixture hanging from the 18 foot ceiling this small space will be warm, inviting and utterly unique.  Almost 65’ of wooden bar will greet the guest with a lit glass elevator shaft keg cooler serving both local and international beers on tap.

Chef Butters says the menu at Micro Bar • Bites will follow a simple formula based on the number 10.  10 Wines, 10 Cocktails, 10 Beer and 10 Bites. Both the food and liquids menu will have a global influence and will change often to highlight the freshest ingredients available.  Micro Bar • Bites will be the perfect spot before or after a hockey game or movie with small plates of charcuterie, artisan olives, paté and cheeses along with a glass of wine or beer.

With construction beginning in the new year, Butters and Surrao are excited to bring “another cool and interesting space to the developing downtown core of Kelowna while expanding their RauDZ Creative Concepts brand of quality restaurants.” Micro Bar • Bites will be located at 1500 Water Street, Kelowna – just a few doors down from RauDZ Regional Table.
