Beer vs Wine: The Battle of the Beverages

October 7, 2011. (Victoria, B.C.) The gloves are off in this battle of the beverages!  On October 25th Beer Vs. Wine will settle once and for all who is the real Prince of the Palate as beer and wine go toe to toe in a five-round food-paired dinner extravaganza.

In the blue corner stands Phillips Brewing Company—the Victoria craft brewery that has earned a reputation for its wide ranging brew attack.  Between their ginger beer jabs and the constant dunkel dancing around the ring, Phillips is a tough opponent to pin down.  Defence is also sound with the Blue Buck block, and opponents cannot afford to overlook the infamous heavy hop hook.

Renaissance Wine Merchants is in the red trunks for the beverage battle, and the Masters of Merlot will look to thwart the Phillips’ assault with some flair of their own.  The ever-poignant Pinot Gris and crushing Cab Franc highlight their attack, while flurries of varietal combinations can leave unsuspecting opponents reeling.

Chef Kevin Gomes from Food For Thought Catering will be refereeing the night, creating one dish to compliment both the beer and wine in a round-by-round, bite-by-bite showdown.  When the bell rings at the end of the night you will decide which one matches the food best.

Fight night is October 25th at Phillips Brewing Company and tickets are $80 for this 5-course beer and wine-paired evening.  Seating is limited and tickets can be purchased from Phillips Brewing Company 2010 Government St.
