If you’re wondering how to treat the dear mother figure in your life this Sunday, take it from a mom. Remember this one word – sparklers. 1 – Sparklers. a.k.a. diamonds. Diamonds are a girl’s best friend (*ahem – for you dads out there)2 – Sparklers. a.k.a. sparkling wine. You can’t go wrong with bubble. Sparkling wine signifies something special. From the production procedure to the pop of the cork, there is extra effort required in each bottle of bubble. Sparkling styles range from sweet to bone dry, can be made from red or white grapes (plus other fruits), and can be made anywhere there is a will to make it.Lucky for us, the good folks at Okanagan Falls’ Blue Mountain Vineyard have that will. Their Gold Label Brut is made in the lengthy traditional method, with 24 months on the lees before disgorgement, followed by an additional 9 months of resting before release. Good things take time! However, unlike diamonds, good things aren’t always expensive. This remains one of BC’s very best buys – the quality for the modest price point is outstanding. Blue Mountain uses a blend of Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Pinot Gris in their cuvee. Fine, steady bubbles race up the flute, with an intense mineral and cereal nose. On the palate, lively acid, with green apple, mineral, bready, citrus and leesy notes and a very lengthy finish. This has balance and finesse in spades – a complex, evolved and simply delicious wine. Drink with anything, liberally. Would go lovely with sparklers of the gemstone kind as well (especially since you’ll be saving money with this value pick!)Most importantly however, don’t forget to raise a glass and cheers to dear mom this Mother’s Day.Rating: (click here to see what our wine ratings mean) EATrecommendsBlue Mountain Vineyard Gold Label Brut NVThis remains one of BC’s very best buys – the quality for the modest price point is outstanding.
