Now in their 3rd generation of winemaking, The Finlayson family has played a significant role in leading the Western Cape region into the international wine market. David Finlayson is currently the leading Cape winemaker, and his vineyards at Edgebaston are situated on the slopes of the Simonsberg. The vineyards are on shale soils – unique to Stellenbosch, and result in wines with excellent structure and longevity. So this wine has the pedigree, the catchy name and label, and the location. But what about in the glass? Rewarding. This box is full of grapes – Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and Merlot are all included. And Berry Box is an apt name – both perfumed red and black fruits mingle amicably in both the nose and on the palate, along with exotic spice, vanilla, mineral and licorice. Plush fruit, structured body and smooth tannins make this layered wine ready to drink now, though you could lie it down for 3-4 years. Pair with big, tender beef to balance the big alcohol (14.5% alc.).Rating: (click here to see what our wine ratings mean) EATrecommendsEdgebaston The Berry Box 2008This box is full of grapes – Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and Merlot are all included.
