Thank you Morgon. This is a perfect example of moving on, moving up. Leave your preconceptions of Beaujolais behind, and get yourself to a liquor store stat. My reasoning is numerous:

Reason #1 – this isn’t Beaujolais Nouveau, this is Cru Beaujolais – le cream of le crop. Reason #2 – 2009 was a record year for this region – many saying it’s the best in decades. Reason #3 – this wine is 100% biodynamic, and expertly so. Reason #4 – Marcel Lapierre is an incredible winemaker, with impeccable vineyards and dedication to his craft. Though sadly he passed away in October, his family will continue in his vision of creating the best Beaujolais possible.

If your only acquaintance with Beaujolais is the baby, carbonically macerated Nouveau style, you owe it to yourself to buy this wine and let me alter your reality. One of the 10 grand cru of Beaujolais, Morgon (along with Moulin à Vent and Chénas) is widely recognized for producing high quality wines with structure and aging potential. 100% Gamay (another perception changer), this wine lures with perfumed wild raspberries and strawberries, and intoxicating floral notes. The silky palate is full of cherries – bing and black – perfectly woven with strawberry, flowers, earth, mineral and savoury notes. Lovely structure, dense yet perfumed fruit, bright acid, and a finish that lingers on and on. As much as I enjoyed drinking this right now, I would save any future bottles for 8-10 years. All this quality for a mere $35 per bottle?! Oui! Pick this up soon – for this bottle won’t be on our shelves for long and is a premium example of Cru Beaujolais at a under-premium price. If you want to drink now, pick up a bottle for a special Christmas dinner – roast goose and chestnuts.
