JUDGMENT OF BC (OLIVER)

The 2013 Syrah from C.C. Jentsch Cellars was the top scoring red in a blind tasting dubbed the “Judgment of BC” held in Vancouver on August 25th. 12 wines (6 Syrah and 6 Chardonnay) from B.C. and 12 “acknowledged global benchmark” wines were tasted blind by a professional tasting panel that included famed British wine critic and consulting editor of Decanter Magazine Steven Spurrier along with a group of esteemed Canadian wine experts. MEAT AND BREAD (VICTORIA)

Carmen Ingham, chef at Meat and Bread in Victoria has announced a 6-course, nose to tail suckling pig dinner will take place on September 12th. All of the courses will be paired with Unsworth wines. They are also working on working with a local farm for produce, and including them in the dinner. This first dinner in a series and will be long table style. Tickets will be $75. Website

HARVEST HAUS (VANCOUVER)

Over the course of six days and nights (October 1-3 and October 9-11, 2015), Queen Elizabeth Theatre Plaza will be transformed into a mini Münich, welcoming 1,200 revelers per seating under the great Harvest Haus Halle marquee.

Beginning with a theatrical keg tapping by the Harvest Haus Bürgermeister, each of the four-hour seatings boasts a fully immersive atmosphere complete with medieval minstrelsy, Bavarian brass oompah bands, live DJs and a sawdust-sprinkled dance floor.

Guests will also enjoy European beers in authentic ceramic Bierkrug (steins) and specialty German wines at communal long tables. Michelin-starred Chef Stefan Hartmann of Bauhaus Restaurant will join vendors from the local German community to provide traditional Oktoberfest delicacies such as Spätzle, Brezen, Bratwürst, Schnitzel and Sauerkraut in the open-air Marktplatz (marketplace).

General Admission and VIP tickets range from $25 to $50 and will be available to the public as of Tuesday, September 1 at 10 am on the website: www.harvesthaus.com. Pre-registration for tickets is now available online.
