Palatia Pinot Grigio 2010

Pinot Grigio 2010
Pfalz, Germany

$19-22  +163584 Available at BC Liquor Stores and select private wine merchants

I did a bit of a double take at the liquor store when I saw this bottle. Pinot Grigio from Germany?  Italy’s fresh and crisp and easy drinking light white transplanted to the Haardt Mountains in the Pfalz region? OK – I’m in.

Still refreshing, but much softer than its Italian cugino, cushioned by the addition of 15% Pinot Bianco. Yellow apple, melon, pear and early-picked peach dominate this light bodied white, while a touch of sweet peach fuzz spice closes out the finish. The result is gentle Pinot Grigio flavours with less of the bracing acidity one normally sees with this style. Try it with lighter white fish dishes or poppyseed dressed salads.
