Time To Wake Up The Orchard

from the press release – image: the orchard at Sea Cider

Sea Cider Farm & Ciderhouse continues to revive a centuries-old tradition with its 3rd annual Winter Wassail Celebration on January 16, 2011.  The general public is invited to this community event to enjoy hot cider, winter-inspired food, cidery tours and much merriment!

Performances throughout the day by the Island Thyme Morris Dancers and the Quicksbottom Morris Men, and owner Kristen Jordan will be hosting cidery tours every half hour.

Guests will be greeted with complimentary samples of Sea Cider’s own hot mulled ciders.  Truffles Catering will have delectable savoury & sweet foodstuffs on offer.

The Wassail is an old English practice held in cider making regions to awaken the orchard from slumber and to ensure an abundant harvest for the coming year.  Click here for more information on the Wassail tradition.

Open since 2007, Sea Cider is a certified organic farm and ciderhouse located 15 minutes north of Victoria on the Saanich Peninsula.

“Apple tree, apple tree

We all come to wassail thee.

Bear this year, and next year

To bloom and to

Blow hats full, caps full

Three-cornered sacks full.

Hip, hip, hip hurrah

Holler biys, holler hurrah!”
