Farming has never been known as easy work. But over the past few weeks, several news stories have emerged indicating that things are only getting getting more challenging for those working in the fields.

On the Grist website, Tom Philpott writes about the USDA’s recent program announcement, which allows the GMO industry to conduct its own environmental impact studies. Read more here.

Here in Canada, Ontario farm workers have lost hope of creating a union, the Windsor Star reported. “The Supreme Court of Canada has abandoned Ontario’s farm workers and the charter of rights has failed them, UFCW Canada national president Wayne Hanley said Friday after the union lost a 16-year court battle to allow agricultural workers to unionize.” To read the full article, click here.
