Chris and Beata Tolley’s small vineyard is located on the east bench above Lake Osoyoos in the South Okanagan. I am well acquainted with their whites – their Viognier, Roussanne and Marsanne blends are fantastic. If you haven’t guessed by now, The Tolley’s are not afraid of vineyard variety adventures. They’re not only finding what best suits their terroir by trial and error, they’re making a name for themselves in a vast sea of Okanagan wineries. In addition to the Rhone whites, they also play around with Petit Verdot, Carmenère, Malbec, Tannat, Corvina – plus the usual suspects (Merlot and friends).I love their whites, but this nip in the air calls for reds. Six Vines is their big Bordeaux blend, utilizing six varieties permitted by the Bx appellation rules: Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Carmenère, Malbec. Each varietal is fermented separately in barrel, and then blended – with the percentages changing annually based on what the wine needs. Red berries, cherry and clove spice in the nose lead to a full bodied red with assertive black cherry, blackberry jam, cocoa, earthy bramble and espresso. Soft and fleshy, with a lengthy herbal finish. Pair with an herb crusted roast beef with long roasted root veg.Rating: (click here to see what our wine ratings mean) EATrecommendsTwisted Tree Vineyards & Winery Six Vines 2008Six Vines is Twisted Tree’s big Bordeaux blend: Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Carmenère, Malbec.
